Frankenstein is considered one of the first science fiction novels and was incredibly ahead of its time. Naturally, I became obsessed. Frankenstein like many science fiction novels wouldn’t be complete without the experiment going wrong in some little way that changes the course of the whole story. So I started pulling quotes that I enjoyed sharing while thinking of what to write for my QUQ. For some context my friends and I have a server on discord, one of the subchannels is where we put one-liners and quotes that we really like from all forms of media. The other day my friend peter put in this quote

All lives touch other lives to create something anew and alive.”

so I instantly thought of Victor Frankenstein. Victor had a great childhood: grew up with the love of his life, great parents, a best friend who will follow him to the ends of the earth that will help him. One kid in class said that victor made the creature because of the loss of his mother. Personally, I think it is because victor wanted to toy with the laws of nature, but what if we focus on the loss of his mother. Wracked with grief, the one person who Victor could always count on was his mother, now that his mother is gone what lengths would he go to to get her back. What if Victor’s plan is to get his mother back. The monster was just a trial run to see if it would work, but he didn’t want to reanimate a criminal so he just made something new. When the monster opens his eyes and that dune yellow-brown stares back at him he realizes that he could bring back his mother, but she would be fundamentally different, she would no longer be his mother. Victor’s mom touched the lives of many and Victor loved her more than anyone else, so he literally made something new and alive to try and get his mother back, but he now knows that is impossible and has to live with this failure.
