This is a song from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. This show ran from 1990 to 2014 with its Broadway Debut in 1997. Music was composed by Frank Wildhorn (The same who wrote “Where do broken hearts go by Whitney Huston.” and Lyrics from Franks Wildhorn, Leslie Bricusse, Steve Cuden. On Broadway Dr, Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are played by Robert Cuccioli who also played Javert in Les Miserables in 1993 and Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in “Spider-man: Turn off the Dark from 2012-2014 (side note I saw the spiderman musical and it was stellar Robert was so scary)

While this musical isn’t a complete retelling of the story, especially using Jekyll and Hyde as the main point of focus instead of Gabriel John Utterson. This song is sung by Anthony Warlow who played Jekyll and Hyde during its run from around 1992-1994. One day in Chorus my teacher, Mr. Miltion, wanted us to learn how to project. There were people like 30-40 of us but only a hand full of us were really into it, some people wanted the easy A for their Art credit and the attention they get from being on stage. So while we were learning Schuler’s mass in g or something similar, he noticed we were losing steam. So he pulled out all the stops and showed us this song he was practicing for an audition. The inflection he had and his voice caused me to feel every emotion all at once. This song has held a special place in my heart, while this recording is close enough to his performance it is not the same but it is still a powerful and stunning piece.
